Tween Book Club

Children ages 9-12 are welcome to join our Tween Book Club on the second Wednesday of each month.  This month we will be reading and comparing two books - Drita, My Homegirl by Jenny Lombard and Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Lai. Registration is required. Register and pick up your free copy of the books at the Youth Services Reference Desk. Participants are welcome to bring suggestions for future books to read together! Refreshments will be served.

In Drita, My Homegirl, Drita and her family come to New York as refugees from war-torn Kosovo. Even though she barely speaks English, Drita can’t wait to start school and make a new best friend. But her new classmates don’t make it easy, teasing her about virtually everything.

In Inside Out & Back Again, Hà has only ever known Saigon: the thrills of its markets, the joy of its traditions, and the warmth of her friends close by. But now the Vietnam War has reached her home. Hà and her family are forced to flee as Saigon falls, and they board a ship headed toward hope—toward America.
