Program Description

About this event:

TCPL invites youth 8+, Teens, and families to a weekly robot wrestling in the Makerspace! Each week participants will be challenged to program and tune a robot to be the last one standing in the arena. TCPL will provide three kinds of robots:

Autonomous: These robots use an Arduino Nano, two geared DC motors, an IR sensor, and an ultrasonic sensor to try and push their opponent out of the ring. The languages used to write scripts for these robots include C++ and Scratch.

App Bots: These robots use an Arduino Nano, Bluetooth module, and tablet to navigate the arena. The robots spin in place until their pilot taps a button on the tablet and they charge forward.  Participants can use C++ to change the robot’s behavior and its armor can be modified.

Antweight: These are 150g combat robots that use hobby-grade electronics to battle. Antweights are the first weight class in the sport of combat robotics. Participants will be able to swap out wedge attachments and adjust servos.

No coding or robotics experience required, TCPL will provide staff/volunteer-led instructions and tutorials on coding/robotics.

This is an open-hour event and robots will be given out to borrow on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you want to bring a robot or learn how to make your own please contact Joah Tang at jtang@tcpl.org for details.
