Program Description
About this event:
Community homeschoolers ages 9-13 are welcome to join this bi-monthly, in person book club! Each participant will receive a copy of the selected award winning book to borrow and read in advance of our meeting. We will then meet in our Thaler/Howell Programming room for discussion and a related activity! Registration is required as space is limited. Register online and reserve a copy of the book to borrow. You will be notified when your copy is available to pick up by curbside or in lobby pickup.
This month we will be reading I Can Make This Promise by Christine Day. I Can Make This Promise is an American Indian Youth Literature Award Honor Book and a Charlotte Huck Award Honor book. It was named a best book of the year in 2020 by Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal and NPR.
"When twelve-year-old Edie finds letters and photographs in her attic that change everything she thought she knew about her Native American mother's adoption, she realizes she has a lot to learn about her family's history and her own identity" - from the publisher
We will be joined virtually by special guest Cheyenne Kroeker, LMFT who is currently a Vocational Rehabilitation counselor with the state of Kansas in the Department of Children and Family and a professor of Psychology at CCC Kansas. He holds an undergraduate and master’s degree in Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling. Cheyenne identifies very much as a third culture kid and is excited to bring his unique experience to our discussion!
