Butterfly In the Sky Free Film Screening
TCPL, WSKG, and Cinemapolis have combined their powers to bring the documentary Butterfly in the Sky to the big screen for a free, one night only film showing. We hope you will join us at 6pm on Tuesday November 12 at Cinemapolis to relive the magic of a show that inspired generations to take a look, in a book, and to check out their local libraries. Host LeVar Burton achieved icon status for a multitude of bookish kids everywhere, by encouraging kids to read, ask questions, and have honest conversations.
I remember watching Reading Rainbow with my siblings when we were kids in the mid-80's, and no matter what books were featured on the show, we were entranced. We watched on our local PBS affiliate WSKG, and it always felt like LeVar was talking to us. It was a show for kids, but unlike a lot of programming aimed at kids between 6 and 12, it felt like more. In a 30 minute episode, Reading Rainbow made us feel like we were being seen through the stories being read. Like being nervous about the first day at a new school. Or not knowing how to react when someone suddenly didn't want to be friends with you. Things we as kids could identify with. We learned so much about kindness from this show thanks to LeVar Burton and the stories he and guests read and then talked about.
So, on Nov 12, grab a popcorn, and enjoy this revolutionary show that meant so much to so many. It's going to be great, but you don't have to take our word for it...
