Family Storytime: Pets!
Do you have a pet? If not, what kind of pet would you get if you could? Some of us can't have furry pets because we're allergic. There are some great books about those kinds of situations ; ) and also books to help you pick a pet. There are books with very silly stories about pets (like the one we read today!) and books about when pets pass away :( so hard...! But it will happen. There are books about that, too.
Here's what we read today:
Some Pets by Angela DiTerlizzi; Ills. by Brendan Wenzel
Whoops! by Suzi Moore; Ills. by Russell Ayto
I Spy Pets by Edward Gibbs
Some Pets - another great book by Angela DiTerlizzi! If you haven't read Some Bugs yet, the first by the duo of DiTerlizzi and Ayto, check it out. Great, rhyming fun!
I discovered Whoops! by accident one day when I was putting books on the shelf for display. It made me laugh. A lot :) So I shared it today. It did elicit several giggles at storytime, mostly from the adults in the room. Don't you just love the authors that can write picture books that make you, the adult, laugh? Whoops! is one of them. Take it home some time :)
I Spy Pets is another one in the Eye Spy series by Edward Gibbs. I love his unique illustrations, and the simple, peek-through, guess-the-animal-format is great for toddlers.
Let's sing a song about pets!
When Pets Wake Up in the Morning!
(Sing to the tune of For He's a Jolly Good Fellow)
When dog wakes up in the morning
When dog wakes up in the morning
When dog wakes up in the morning
he always says “Bow-wow!”
Cat…she always says “Meow!”
Mouse…he always says “Squeak-squeak!”
Fish …she always says “Glub-glub!”
Turtle…he always goes back to sleep!
What other pets can you think of? What do they say?
We didn't do this next one about mice because I ran out of time, but I'll add it here because I think it's fun:
Mice!
(Sing to the tune of Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes)
Ears and whiskers, tails and feet
Tails and feet!
Ears and whiskers, tails and feet
Tails and feet…
Pet my fur and make me squeak!
Ears and whiskers, tails and feet,
Tails and feet!
That's all I have time for now! Don't forget to check out the book list at the end of this post!
See you next time,
Miss Kelly
