Presented as part of TCPL's Will Eisner Week celebration, the members of Ithaca College's Graphic Novel Advisory Board and Professor Katharine Kittredge will discuss why there has been a massive upsurge in the banning of graphic novels in recent years. We will talk about some of the most powerful books that have been banned in a variety of categories, including memoirs, super-hero comics, historical titles, and kids' graphic novels.
The Graphic Novel Advisory Board promotes the use of graphic novels to enhance literacy and to provide an outlet for creative writing and art, especially for young people. They work with libraries to help expand and enhance library collections to make graphic novels more available for readers of all ages. Made up of Ithaca College students, they write reviews, publish newsletters, give presentations, run workshops, and complete site-visits to help librarians curate their selections. Visit their website for more information.
This book discussion will be offered virtually via Zoom. Participants registered here will receive an email with details on how to access the meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Sophia McKissick at smckissick@tcpl.org.
