**EVENT POSTPONED**

Older adults, their family members and caregivers are invited to join Brendan Wilbur, of Alternatives Federal Credit Union, for an interactive workshop on preparing for retirement at Tompkins County Public Library, on Thursday, October 25th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Library’s new Digital Lab.

Part of the Library’s Ask a Professional series, the workshop will focus on steps and tools for identifying and navigating retirement resources available online, including Social Security.  A portion of this workshop will focus on creating an account on the Social Security website, www.ssa.gov/myaccount/  and patrons in attendance are encouraged to bring their Social Security information with them.  Patrons will also need to be prepared to ask the following questions:  What do I cost? What do I want to do when I retire?  How do I make it all work?  Funding for this program is provided by the Finger Lakes Library System.

Brendan Wilbur is the Community Programs Manager at Alternatives Federal Credit Union where he has worked for the past fourteen years. Mr. Wilbur has a Master’s degree in Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University and he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a BS in Natural Resource Management.  He runs the Financial Wellness programs at Alternatives, specializing in working with families and individuals on their finances and credit report. He is the proud parent of three wonderful children and resides in Ithaca, which he has called his home since 2003.  Learning late in life how to manage money, he is inspired to help others learn money management skills and to help get the shame and guilt out of our money. Brendan’s inclusive and non-judgmental approach to credit and financial counseling is a large reason why the program is so successful. He takes the shame out of talking about finances, and helps people leave feeling educated and empowered. We all face financial challenges, no matter what our income level is, and Brendan makes each individual feel welcomed and safe so that true change can take place.
