About this event:
From Raina Telgemeier’s Smile to Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home, graphic memoirs can be a way for authors to share their experiences—and for readers to discover the special power and delight of comics. In celebration of Will Eisner Week, Ithaca College’s Graphic Novel Advisory Board is highlighting some of their favorite titles for those who love memoirs as much as they love graphic novels. From award winners like Kate Beaton’s Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sand to lesser known titles like Bechdel’s Are You My Mother, this presentation will leave you with myriad memoirs to add to your “to be read” pile.
Registration is encouraged but not required.
The Graphic Novel Advisory Board promotes the use of graphic novels to enhance literacy and to provide an outlet for creative writing and art, especially for young people. They work with libraries to help expand and enhance library collections to make graphic novels more available for readers of all ages. Made up of Ithaca College students, they write reviews, publish newsletters, give presentations, run workshops, and complete site-visits to help librarians curate their selections. Visit their website for more information.
