Dialogue on “Human and Nonhuman Migration"

As part of the exhibit, Draw a Line----, we bring this program “Human and Nonhuman Migration” focused the following three topics: (1) the connections and differences between human and nonhuman migrations; (2) if and how those connections have been made visible in film and literature; and (3) the importance and challenges of translational scholarship. 

The question that motivates this inquiry is the following: what are the parameters that define what “natural” migration is? To address this question, I divide the project into three parts: (a) theoretical approaches to human and nonhuman migration ; (b) the possibilities of representation in film and literature (c) cultural orientation and civil engagement. The aim of the presentation is to dialogue on dilemmas and questions guiding these three parts of the project.

Breve descripción de la presentación: El objetivo de “Migración humana y no-humana” es abordar los siguientes tres temas: (1) los quiebres y coincidencias entre la migración humana y no-humana; (2) si y de qué manera es que tales conexiones se han hecho visibles en cine y literatura; y (3) la necesidad e importancia de abordar estos temas desde una perspectiva traslacional

La interrogante que motiva esta investigación es: ¿cuáles son los parámetros que dictan lo que se considera una migración “natural”? Para abordar esta pregunta, divido el proyecto en tres partes: (a) aproximaciones teóricas a los conceptos de la migración humana y la no-humana; (b) las posibilidades de representación de este tema en cine y literatura; (c) orientación cultural y participación cívica. El objetivo de este proyecto es abrir el diálogo a los dilemas que rodean tales elementos.

There will be two sessions. The 5pm to 6pm will be English language only and the 6pm to 7pm will be Spanish language only.  Families with children are welcome.
