Program Description

About this event:

"Black Girls Don't Get Love" is a coming of age story about a Black high school girl who is dealing with feelings of insecurity due to Eurocentric Beauty Standards.

As part of this self-esteem workshop, students will watch the "Black Girls Don't Get Love" short film and participate in a Mini-Writers Room session with author and filmmaker Eden Strachan where they will brainstorm additional storylines for Zoe and her peers as they navigate celebrating diverse identities.

The Black Girls Don't Get Love Mini-Writer's Room is based on the Black Girls Don't Get Love Screenwriting Workshop curriculum, which meets the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts and the National Core Arts Standards.

Black Girls Don't Get Love is a book and multimedia coming of age brand for girls of color. Our mission is to use media to turn silence into language and change the way Black women and girls are perceived in society.
