"Big Little Lies" Community Conversation

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and this year, the Advocacy Center is focusing on the ways domestic violence hurts children. Each year, one in fifteen children are exposed to intimate partner violence, and 90% of these children are eyewitnesses to this violence. Domestic violence — and the significant impact it has on children — was expertly portrayed in one of the storylines in the book and limited TV series Big Little Lies. Join the Advocacy Center for a facilitated Community Conversation about the complex themes about domestic violence including power and control, and the striking discrepancy between public perception and private experience.

The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County provides supportive services for victims of domestic and sexual violence including: a 24-Hour Hotline (607-277-5000); emotional support; legal social services, medical advocacy; support groups; and confidential shelter. They also provide prevention education programs for teens, college students and adults with the goal of improving our community's response to victims of abuse, and preventing future abuse.
