Program Description

About this event:

The Tompkins County Public Library Foundation will be hosting Barbarella, Beer & Banter on Wednesday, October 2, from 6 pm to 9 pm at Cinemapolis in support of local curators and artists who will be showing their work at the library in 2020. Laugh out loud as you enjoy live commentary by local comedians (Kenneth McLaurin, Dan Kelly, Eli Corning, Marissa Rice, Bryan VanCampen, and Deidre Mollura) during a screening of the 1968 sci-fi comedy film Barbarella. A cash bar will be available to guests, courtesy of Lucky Hare Brewing, with a portion of the sales to benefit our cause.

Our library serves the Ithaca community by providing open access to integral resources and programming that promote cultural education and exposure to the arts. We consider TCPL an optimal and safe space for local artists and curators from underrepresented and culturally isolated communities to have their talents seen and their voices heard. Our primary way of supporting the area’s emerging artists is through our First Friday Gallery Nights that kick off a series of four exhibits displayed at the library throughout the year. These exhibits are meant for the enjoyment of all our patrons, regardless of artistic experience or background, and they offer an opportunity for open dialogue about the complex social and political issues that art can often uncover. We have identified four curators and 100 artists who will be participating in the library’s exhibitions over the coming year, and we are asking for your support at this upcoming fundraiser that is sure to be a blast! Tickets are available now on the Cinemapolis website for $20.
