Program Description

About this event:

Whether you're new to Medicare due to age or disability, or you've been on Medicare and want a better understanding of how it works, this program will provide an overview of the different ways that you can receive your Medicare benefits, as well as how these benefits coordinate with other health care coverage. Topics will include original Medicare (parts A & B), Medicare Part D (prescription drug coverage), Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C), and Medigap plans. We will also discuss possible ways to cut down on costs of prescription medications and Medicare premiums by providing information on the Medicare Savings Program, EPIC, and Extra Help. If you leave with additional questions or you'd like further information on your own health insurance situation, information will be provided on how to access free, nonbiased health insurance counseling through the HIICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program) located at Lifelong in Ithaca.

Liza Burger is the HIICAP (Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program) Coordinator at Lifelong, Ithaca. Ms. Burger has a masters degree in Social Work with a Specialist in Aging Certificate.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant through the Finger Lakes Library System.  For more information about this program or the Ask a Professional series, contact Digital Librarian Tom at tfredette@tcpl.org
