In November of 2000, Tompkins County Public Library moved from Cayuga Street into the former Woolworths building on Green Street. This November marks the 20th anniversary of TCPL as you now know it, anchoring the busiest corner in Ithaca.

A lot has changed in twenty years—fresh faces, new spaces, expanded services and programs. Late fees have even been eliminated!

In other ways, little has changed. The Library remains the heart of our community. A trusted source of information and education. A place of wonder and discovery. A place where diverse opinions are valued and free speech is respected.

We need the Library now more than ever.

But in 2020, TCPL is facing challenges that were unimaginable in 2000. COVID-19 has necessitated costly new procedures and safety measures, and its financial impact on county, city, and state revenue has resulted in extensive budget cuts. TCPL will continue to strive to meet the needs of the community under these difficult conditions.

The Library urgently needs your help.

One way to do that is to commemorate TCPL’s 20 Years on Green Street with a recurring gift of $20 a month for 20 months. For this modest monthly commitment, you can help TCPL serve our community in innovative, new ways. Your support helps provide thematic “book bundles” of specially-selected titles for kids, teens, and families; innovative online programming; socially-distant, in-house internet access; and curated “binge bundles” of movies, books, and audiobooks for adults.
