Program Description

About this event:

“When we say 'the world has ended,' it’s usually a lie, because the planet is just fine. But this is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. For the last time.” ~N.K. Jemisin, The Fifth Season

A global pandemic, racial justice uprisings, climate change, and class inequality--does it seem like we’re living in the end times? Join a free virtual teen book club in which we’ll read and discuss N.K. Jemisin’s award-winning novel The Fifth Season.

Discussions will be facilitated by Brianna Thompson and Gabriella Friedman, PhD candidates in the English Department at Cornell. We’ll meet weekly on Zoom from August 3 -September 7 at 3pm on Mondays.

Registration is required. To get your free copy of the book, use the registration form here on our website. You will then receive an email or phone call from us with details on when and how you can pick up the book.

We invite you to join us as we talk about how the novel helps us reflect on our current moment locally, nationally, and globally.
