This instructional database assists patrons of all ages prepare for a variety of academic and civil service tests, including SAT, GED, ASVAB, clerical worker, police officer, firefighter, postal worker and real estate practice tests. There are math, reading, and writing skill-building resources for all students. Job seekers can receive help in creating a resume and cover letter and tips on preparing for a job. Academic OneFile (Gale)
Geared toward older students, faculty, and researchers, contains over 12,000 journals and reference sources, many of which are peer-reviewed and full text. Academic OneFile has extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and more. Academic OneFile also includes some major reference sets including Gale Encyclopedia of Science, Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine, and Encyclopedia of World Biography.
Gannett Newsstand (ProQuest) - Full-text articles from 85 Gannett newspaper titles from local and regional coverage from across the country. Included are the NYS newspapers: Ithaca Journal; Journal News (White Plains); Poughkeepsie Journal; Press & Sun Bulletin (Binghamton); Rochester Democrat and Chronicle; and Star-Gazette (Elmira). Available from home. Funded by NOVEL, an electronic resource access project that enables libraries across New York State to give their communities online access to the full text of hundreds of journals, newspapers and other references.
General OneFile (Gale)
For researchers at all levels, is a general periodical database containing over 12,000 periodicals, newspapers, reference books and multimedia sources, over half of which are full text. The backfile extends nearly 30 years. Subjects include humanities, education, environmental issues, technology, health care, politics and more. In addition General OneFile features 500+ travel guides as well as full-text sports, travel, fashion, gardening, children’s and general interest popular magazines.
Opposing Viewpoints in Context (Gale Cengage Learning) - A comprehensive social issues database providing pro/con viewpoint articles, reference information, statistics, journal and newspaper articles, images, and web links to develop and enhance critical thinking skills for everything from social studies projects to debate preparation.
