Natural Remedies and Emergency Care

Jacquelyn Blizzard, Co-Director of Eastman Hill Health and Training Center, Natural Hygiene Coach and Health Instructor instructor will demonstrate how to use everyday items to heal and improve health. Possibilities include using an onion for congestion and using potatoes for pain relief. This program is for adults and is open to the public. Registration is suggested, but not required. Local Author Bob Proehl Book Reading and Q & A

The library will host local author Bob Proehl for a reading of his latest book A Hundred Thousand Worlds, which will be available in paperback this month. The reading will be followed by a Q&A session. According to Goodreads, A Hundred Thousand Worlds is a "tribute to the fierce and complicated love between a mother and son and to the way the stories we create come to shape us." Bob Proehl has worked as a bookseller and programming director for Buffalo Street Books, a DJ, a record store owner and a bartender. He was a 2012 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow in Fiction. He has worked as a columnist and reviewer for the arts and culture site Popmatters.com. He currently lives in Ithaca, New York with his wife, stepson and daughter.

Midday Mindfulness
Tuesdays, July and August
12:00 to 12:30 pm

Facilitated by psychotherapist and Certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher Anna Salamone, RN, LCSW, these sessions will encourage participants to shift out of "automatic pilot" mode and observe the workings of the mind, body, and emotions. Mindfulness practice has been touted as a means for reducing stress, improving attention, boosting the immune system, reducing emotional reactivity and promoting a general sense of health and well-being. Salamone received extensive training from The Center for Mindfulness, Healthcare, and Society founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and has been leading classes in Ithaca since 2007.

Intergenerational Terrarium Making
Saturday, July 22
12:00 to 3:00 pm
BorgWarner Community Room

This intergenerational event is open to all ages. You do not need to be present for all three hours; we will provide a couple of demonstrations throughout the afternoon and participants will be able to work at their own pace.

Ice Cream Sundae Closing Party

Wrap up the ending of the "Build a Better World at TCPL" summer reading program with a sundae. Enjoy ice cream with your favorite toppings, as you talk about books you have read over the summer.
