Poetry at TCPL - Image of Tompkins County Map

This year's Poem in Your Pocket Day will feature poems about what it's like to live in and around Tompkins County. Poems will be featured on cards to be distributed to community members on Thursday, April 27, 2017.

Poets are invited to take part in a Poetry Open Mic on Friday, May 5 from 4-5:30 in the Ezra Cornell Room.

Submit a poem for Poem in Your Pocket Day 2017!

Submission guidelines:

Poems must be no longer than 15 lines.

There is a limit of two poems per poet.

Poems must focus on living in Tompkins County.

Poems can be dropped of at the Learning and Information Services Reference Desk or submitted online. Deadline for submissions is Friday, March 24.

Poem in Your Pocket Day 2016

We had over 45 poets submit their poetry in 2016. On Poem in Your Pocket Day, the library, local businesses, and organizations distributed 3000 poems to the community.

The library hosted a Poetry Open Mic on Friday, April 29, 2016 in the Ezra Cornell Reading Room. The picture below is of Zee Zahara, Tompkins County Poet Laureate, reading her work.

As part of the Ithaca Festival, the library hosted a Poetry Slam at Dewitt Park on Saturday, June 4. Jack Hopper, the Tompkins County Poet Laureate, kicked off the event with his poetry.
