Art in the Avenue of the Friends
The 3-dimensional exhibits we are able to display in the Avenue of the Friends are made possible by grant support from the Brooks Family Foundation and the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County and generous support from individual artists and arts groups, and community groups.
Displays planned for 2010
- April: A Look at the Discovery Trail
- May: Two Ithaca Fiber Artists present Dreamboats and Pendelton Plains Indian Dolls

- June: Visual Culture
Ceramic and other three-dimensional art of Ithaca High School students. Part of the annual art exhibit from Ithaca High School curated by Carol Spence and other high school art faculty.
- July - through August 12: How to Enjoy the End of Time on $10 a Day by Jim Garmhausen
An exhibit in conjunction with the Community Read featuring the art of Jim Garmhausen and other artists will be on display July 15th through the end of the month. Garmhausen will discuss the exhibit during a free reception July 20 at 6:00 PM in the Library’s Thaler/Howell Programming Room.
- August - September: Kinetic Sculpture
Physics Professor Werner Sun presents the third exhibit in the series The Art Behind the Scientist. The exhibit will include mobiles and other three dimensional art reminiscent of Calder. A workshop followed by a reception will be held Wednesday, August 25th at 6:00 PM in the BorgWarner Community Meeting Room.
- October - December: The Dora Erway Doll Collection
Thirty-seven period and native dolls made during the 1920’s, loaned by the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections, Kroch Library.
