2009 Art Exhibits at the Library
A Year of Art @ Your Public Library
Art exhibits at Tompkins County Public Library are made possible in part by grant support to the Tompkins County Public Library Foundation from the Community Arts Partnership, and additional financial support from the Brooks Family Foundation.
January through March 2009
Seeing In the Dark curated by pastel artist and arts organizer Laurel Guy will be on display January 9 through March 20 3009. The exhibit features the work of artists inspired by the night and exploring contrasts between light and darkness. The Opening Reception for this exhibit is being held in conjunction with the Light in Winter Festival from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday January 23. The exhibit will be on display through the end of March.
April through May 2009
Art and the Librarian, curated by quilter and senior library clerk Beth Killheffer, will feature art work in a variety of media created by Tompkins County librarians, staff and Trustees.
The Opening Reception will take place on Thursday April 16, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Visual Culture at Ithaca High School curated by Carol Spence presents the annual Ithaca High School Student Art show featuring work by Ithaca High School Students working in a wide variety of different media.
The Opening Reception will take place on Friday, June 5, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
July through September 2009
A Senior Summer curated by senior artists Germaine Colvin, Mary Schuler and Sue Kilgore. This exhibit will feature work in a variety of media created by artists over 65 years of age. A common element among the works to be shown is the life experience which guides each artist.
The Opening Reception will take place on Thursday July 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm
October through December 2009
Books to Prints - Prints to Books, curated by artist, print and book maker Christa Wolf. The exhibit will feature the work of artist members of the Ink Shop and Olive Branch Press.
