As part of the community read of Antigone, the Tompkins County Public Library will host Origins of Classical Placenames on Saturday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Borg Warner Room Community Room. This program is sponsored by The DeWitt Historical Society of Tompkins County.

Dr. Vasiliev will be discussing the development of classical placenames in New York State, why they exist, and what influence they may have had on other placenames. This program is sponsored by The DeWitt Historical Society of Tompkins County.

Dr. Ren Vasiliev teaches cartography and geography at SUNY Geneseo, and is the chair of the Geography Department. She recently finished a book on New York State Placenames for Syracuse University Press.
